index display different to default..?
Hi, I’m hoping someone here can help me with some troubles i’m having laying out a txp site..
It’s for a school, where i’m using mdp_calendar to display future events, as well as having a list of excerpts from the 3 most recent posts in a column to the right of the main content.
My problem, is with the way it’s currently set up, any time you try to view all articles in a chosen category, they appear in the side bar and not the main body.. I have the archive page set to display the full article in the main body (via the permalink), which is fine.. I just don’t know how to set a different layout for the index page that’s not the default. . .
..I hope that makes sense!

Finner, the index always uses the default page, but you can set other pages to use other layouts, so go about it the other way around. Set your current layout as another page, assign it to you other sections/archives, and then change default to look like you want.

Re: index display different to default..?
Thanks kemie – shall give it a try and see how I go! :D
I’m now wondering how you can change the layout for viewing articles by category… at the moment, it’s using the default, which, as I want for the index page, puts the news in a column on the right of the main body…
I can click on any of their titles (i suppose that’s the permalink) and view the whole article that uses the archive layout. I’ve put a list of all my categories in the space to the right, but when I select one of those I get a list of all the articles from that category in the side bar, not the main body… if that makes sense..?! :D
The site is under development here – http://isoftdesign.com.au/temp/pps/ – if that helps.. g
cheers

Re: index display different to default..?
Hi Finner,
You can use conditional tags in the default page template to separate category listings. Example:

<txp:if_category>

Category: <txp:category link="0" title="1" />

Category stuff here...

<txp:else />

Welcome to my site

Index page stuff goes here...

</txp:if_category>

If you wish to use a different section for the category archive, rss_unlimited_categories allows you to do that.
