Another pre-release, 4.0-20060831.zip
If you are running the last pre-release ( 4.0-20060824.zip ), you really should update to this.
If you are going to use this download, also expect to update again soon (hopefully the release then).

Should the latest en-gb language file (2006-08-22 13:44) be included?
What’s the reason to use the gb language as a default?

People who are adventurous enough to use a pre-release and who have problems accessing the RPC-server, will know where to get their latest language file. (The included language file is only used as a backup if RPC-Server cannot be reached)

Is there a reason, why the id, the edit and view links are in the same table cell in the list of articles? Now every article takes 3 lines instead of just 2.

Skubidu, I just noticed the articles issue, it’s also happening in the comments tab.
PS. Clicking on Admin takes you to Users instead of Preferences.

That was intentionally done not so long ago, so that lower level users (without privs to the prefs page) can easily get to the page where they can reset their passwords and emails.

The Textpattern dev team are French, German, Spanish, Canadian, and Australian. All of those places normally use dialects based on en-gb, as far as I’m aware.

To save space horizontally ?
Personally I’d like to see the other ‘List’ tables (Images, Files, Links) do the same, for the sake of consistency.

To save space horizontally ?
Well, I’ve got a Laptop with a screen resolution of 1280×800. There is not that much space vertically, so beside the visual aspect (I think it looks ugly) I hope the needed lines for one article will be reduced again. It’s not fun to have to scroll so often on the touchpad of a laptop…

Funny, I have the same resolution and use a laptop as well. And I prefer the current way, visually as well in terms of space and usability (the two links in a column with no header always looked out of place for me). In terms of readability I prefer less columns (the real difficulty probably stems from the amount of information that is in the list).
Given the search-box at the top, I hardly have to scroll either. Once you have to scroll it doesn’t really make much of a difference whether you scroll a little or much, and given that the the smallest list of 15 has never fit on a single screen, IMHO there’s very little effective change.
Maybe we can find another solution…

Re: Another pre-release, 4.0-20060831.zip
Question: If we need to save space horizontally, why not joining the category 1 and 2 column? This would reduce the space needed horizontally, it’s connected in content and it would not result in a new line.
Besides the visual aspect I don’t think it makes sense to list edit and view links under the headline ID. Same on the comment tab, where I think E-Mail, Webseite, IP should be replaced by one single headline, if they are unified in one column.

It’d make sortable columns for those things pretty difficult.
Some other possibilities are being discussed too.
