Rate it plugin?

I can’t seem to find any kind of “rate it” plugin. I guess there probably isn’t one, but I thought I’d ask anyway.

Basically what I’m looking to do is just have a way for people to add their own rating to articles. In my case, I’ve got a golf site. I’ve got different golf courses in individual articles, so when people view an article about a course I’d like to just have something like a 5 star rating where people can vote 1 star if the don’t like it and all the way up to 5 if they do like it. Or something like that…doesn’t have to be stars. Maybe it’s just something simple that is based on the ip address of the visitor so the same person cannot vote twice.

Re: Rate it plugin?

Thanks Egor! I’ve searched the resource site with no luck!

I’m wondering how the hell to use it though? <a href=“http://www.kentuckygolfing.com/courses/2/aj-jolly-golf-course#”>http://www.kentuckygolfing.com/courses/2/aj-jolly-golf-course#</a> is the page I’m trying to add it to and you can see where I’ve added it, but it’s not retaining any of the CSS specified for it under the “extentions>rating” tabs. If I click on any of the numbers it does nothing….

Thoughts, ideas?

EDIT: Thanks Walker…Egor beat you to it! :) If you can help with the above feel free to chime in.

SECOND EDIT: BTW, I’m using <txp:tcm_rating_form /> to output the form onto the page.

Re: Rate it plugin?

Well I figured out the CSS (kinda). I uploaded a star image and clicked “append” which applied the style to my stylesheet, now I’ve got two rows of stars and when clicked, nothing happens.

Re: Rate it plugin?

First, solve a minor problem by changing your css to this (ummmm….this isn’t exactly right but it’s getting there):

<pre>
<code>
/* styles for the star rater */ .star-rating{ list-style:none; margin: 0px; padding:0px; width: 60px; height: 12px; position: relative; background: url(/images/star.gif) top left repeat-x; } .star-rating li{ padding:0px; margin:0px; /*\*/ float: left; /* */ } .star-rating li a{
border: 0; display:block; width:12px; height:12px; text-decoration: none; text-indent: -9000px; z-index: 20; position: absolute; padding: 0px; } .star-rating li a:hover{ background: url(/images/star.gif) left bottom; z-index: 2; left: 0px; } .star-rating a.one-star{ left: 0px; } .star-rating a.one-star:hover{ width:12px; } .star-rating a.two-stars{ left:12px; } .star-rating a.two-stars:hover{ width: 24px; } .star-rating a.three-stars{ left: 24px; } .star-rating a.three-stars:hover{ width: 36px; } .star-rating a.four-stars{ left: 36px; } .star-rating a.four-stars:hover{ width: 48px; } .star-rating a.five-stars{ left: 48px; } .star-rating a.five-stars:hover{ width: 60px; } .star-rating li.current-rating{ background: url(/images/star.gif) left center; position: absolute; height: 12px; display: block; text-indent: -9000px; z-index: 1; }
</code>
</pre>

Re: Rate it plugin?

Ah, that looks much better. :)

Am I using the right tag for the plugin? <txp:tcm_rating_form />? Because even though it looks better, it’s still not right. The stars are not doing anything. It’s giving my 5 stars no matter what when if I understand how it should work, there shouldn’t be any stars until it’s rated, right? I’m having a hard time understanding the “help” file included with the plugin.

Re: Rate it plugin?

I know….that was the one part I couldn’t figure out in the CSS. The stars should look right now, but the hover state is no longer working and I’m not sure “current rating” state is either.

Also, I have no clue how the back-end of this works. I’m almost certain you need a JS page or something.

Re: Rate it plugin?

Oh. Do you have the other two plugins that this one uses installed?

Re: Rate it plugin?

hmmm…well I will email the author of the plugin and see if he/she can assist us. If not, I don’t think I’m going to use this plugin, because I’m not messing around with the backend stuff.

I’ll let you know if I hear anything.

Re: Rate it plugin?

Nope…didn’t realize it used two other plugins? I saw something where it talked about compooter.org and that it uses those plugins…but I took it as it used snippets of code from those in the rate it one, not that I needed them. Do you have them installed?
