uploaded image dissappeared from database

hello all,

this is a weird thing: i uploaded an image to teh database replacing the divider.gif, which is part of the default install of textpattern. the image disppeared from the database now, and while i uploaded it i got an error message sayinh that the image folder and file permissions should be set to 777. i changed this then, but nevertheless the image doesn’t come up on the images overview page anymore, although it physically shows up, when i ftp into the images folder.

does anyone have a clue, what happens there and how it could be fixed? thanx mucho!

Re: uploaded image dissappeared from database

Out of curiosity: is the new one a different file type than the original? Say, a .png file?

Re: uploaded image dissappeared from database

mary, good question (resembles the “radio doesn’t work, because the power cable wasn’t plugged in” thing… 8) – no, it is a .gif. – 1.gif to be exact, and it is the new one already – i downloaded it to look at it again, the image file displays normally, when checked, buty it still doesn’t show up in the images tab in the backend admin section…

??

Re: uploaded image dissappeared from database

Is there a specific reason why you do not simply delete the file per ftp, and upload the image again, and simply change the references in your template?

Re: uploaded image dissappeared from database

sencer, no, of course i have done exactly that already. the reason why i am still researching on this is just, because i belive, that there is some otehr troubles in the background involved, that might be of interest for you txp core programmers. if an image disappears from both backend and frontend, when being replaced and although it is physically there, then there might be issues to be researched just to make sure, that a potential failure in the core programming doesn’t grow in the further development of the software.
i hope that makes any sense.

Re: uploaded image dissappeared from database

If you can find the steps necessary to reproduce the behaviour, you can file a bug report.
If it isn’t reproducible, it was probably a result of the environment (for example a mysql-crash) and there isn’t anything we can do about it.

Re: uploaded image dissappeared from database

sencer, thanx much, i am quite new to textpatetrn and i am still trying to get used to all what’s possible. so please excuse my seeming dumbness sometimes.
one thing i just want to add is, that i had updated the languages recently, but then found an article here (on the german forum pages) that warns to update the languages before the outcome of textpattern 4.0.4. unfortunately i couldn’t find out how to reverse my language installs to the 4.0.3 version other than doing a complete reinstall of textpattern. maybe that’s related information.

okay i stop bragging-disturbing now. thanx much for your help. for now i might just continue with the workaround.

I don’t see it that way, and I hope it didn’t come across like that.

AFAI understood it, it’s because a handful of language strings changed so that you may get odd grammatical structure in one or two places. Unless you are a very obsesive about grammer, I doubt you’ll even notice – IMHO. There is really nothing to worry about. It certainly doesn’t have any effect n the functioning of the software.

As I am the one who wrote the post in the German forum section: you really don’t have to worry about anything not working correctly due to the translation. Some of the updated strings won’t fit anymore in 4.0.3 (some nouns are verbs now etc. – that’s all). I just posted the thread about the translation to point that out and because I don’t know how to revert to the old strings for 4.0.3 (I don’t have a copy of these). If you updated your language files stay with it :)

Re: uploaded image dissappeared from database

sencer and skudibdu:

checking the images table in phpMyAdmin i found now, that the row for id=1 was completely gone, which had happened obviously, when i replaced the image in content->images before.
i manually put in a row with all the information for id=1 now, and it works again.

just found it weird, that this happens, especially because i couldn’t find an older thread dealing with such incongruencies before. only a very recent one here
which described the same error, but in more detail.

in any case: problem fixed.

muchas gracias for your time and efforts.

janek

Re: uploaded image dissappeared from database

Jayrope isn’t going crazy. This is a bug.

If you want to want to substitute an image and do in by uploading a replacement via the Textpattern images control panel, the image is deleted from the database. Give it a shot and you’ll see the same thing.
