PHP Frameworks
Now that I’m actively taking up PHP, it occured to me that learning it in conjunction with a framework would be a good idea.
I’ve been messing around with Code Igniter and it seems pretty straightforward, but the community is not as strong as Zend or even Cake, and thats a major selling point. Another problem with CI is that models are controlled through objects, which seems counterintuitive to me and is one of the things that also turned me off to Rails.
Really I’m just curious how many of you guys are using frameworks, which ones and why…

Re: PHP Frameworks
I use cakePHP. It’s awesome, easy to use, the community is helpful and friendly, and the documentation, while not great, is more than enough to get stuff done (GSD ;)

Re: PHP Frameworks
Cheers Walker… I been leaning towards cake as it seems to be the most mature and complete of the frameworks. Up till now the documentation is what’s kept me from jumping on board. Their wiki is littered with incomplete articles and it will be a while before they have a complete resource (what can I say…TXP has me spoiled in this regard ;)
I should probably just register at their forums and dive in… instead of sticking my big toe in the water and screaming like a school girl cause its too cold.

Tee hee.
Yeah, do it. I picked out two really simple applications I wanted to build and just started in on it. You can see one here. My portfolio is written in cake. The rest of my website runs on Textpattern.
