Making the switch from wordpress

Now, I don’t want to trash wordpress, as I think it’s a pretty decent platform. However, in attempting to get my site into wordpress, and venturing over to the wordpress forums, I’ve noticed that the wp forums have an awful lot of juveniles running amuck, and I never did receive much in the way of help, so I started to investigate textpattern.

I got the site into wordpress, but what I’m noticing is that textpattern seems to be more flexible with what you can do with it – I’m sure there are pro’s and con’s to each platform, but I’m going to make the switch to textpattern! You can view my site here: http://imediatech.biz/wordpress/

You may want to be a bit more specific if you’re asking for help on the forum…
Do you need help installing? navigating the admin panel? using the right tags to make your pages look the way you want?
My suggestion is to dive in, and if you get stuck, then certainly call on the forum, especially the How Do I section, and ask your questions :)

alicson, thanks and you’re right, I wasn’t real specific in what my need(s) were. Anyway, I’ll start with those links you provided (thank you) and see how I make out. I think you’re right, diving right in is going to be my best bet.

Any community will have its “children”. I hope you run into fewer here.

WordPress is really blog software, with support for some “static-like” pages, while Textpattern is the opposite, more like a lite cms with some blog-like features. The one best for you is determined by just what you need and want.

Taking a look at your site, I’d say Textpattern is probably a good match for you. Good luck in the switch. :)

I haven’t run into childlike attitudes here, on the contrary, it feels more business oriented. We do our share of kidding around, but for the most part, Textpattern users seem more mature.

I found the TXP FAQ to be extremely well-done. Especially the chapther on <a href=“http://textpattern.com/faq/147/common-how-do-i-questions”>Common “How Do I?” questions</a> answered just about any I was having.

I was also relieved when I came across the <a href=“http://textpattern.org/tutorials/527/txp-tag-reference-pdf-2”>TXP Tag Reference</a> as a PDF. It’s just so much easier to refer to real, printed pages than having to stare at a screen all the time, well, for me anyway.
