Re: What´s new in 4.0.4?

We try to update this as we go along:
http://svn.textpattern.com/development/4.0/HISTORY.txt

Should be a good starting point.

Exploring all the different options I’ve been linked to, testing them out locally first.

As for the admin area, there’s lots that’s changed. Most every tab has new options making it easier to manage your sites, though the interface looks the same I welcome the new additions.

I’ve been testing SVN since March of this year, the history file that Sencer links to is but a tip of the iceberg. My favorite changes are in the presentation tab, Mary has given us nicer code fonts so editing pages, forms and style are easier on the eyes.

Overall, I can’t wait to get my live sites on it.

Re: What´s new in 4.0.4?

There are worthy changes with respect to the admin panels, just not with the tabs:

The default articles, images, files, links and comments panels now have more ID and link features (the files and comments panels are not reflected in the image below, but follow much the same idea)…

<img src=“http://textbook.textpattern.net/txpForumImages/txp4.0.4-panelrows.png” alt=“Sampling of new Txp features in content panels.” />

space

  • Observation — With respect to the comments panel (not shown in image): Should anyone have to view their admin panels at 800 × 600, the column that holds the actual text comments is mashed into a very narrow width. If the user comments are remotely lengthy, this will cause incredible length to the page. However, there doesn’t seem to be any way around this without increasing screen resolution, which widens the view port and thus the column. Shouldn’t be a problem with modern computers as they are (the age of the 800 × 600 resolution is waning).

With respect to the images panel, there is also a change with the image code generator. When a code option is clicked (XHTML, Textile, Textpattern), instead of just auto-generating the code as before, you are first presented with a new styles builder that pulls from your CSS

<img src=“http://textbook.textpattern.net/txpForumImages/txp4.0.4-imgcodebuilder.png” alt=“Image styles builder.” />

space

  • Observation — I would suggest something more like this for usability reasons.

space

The pages and forms panels now utilize space-saving dropdown behavior for the tag builders, where the options expand when a form group header is clicked…

<img src=“http://textbook.textpattern.net/txpForumImages/txp4.0.4-tagbuild.png” alt=“Sampling of new Txp tag builder behavior.” />

space

The write panel uses better form markup (fieldsets, etc.), which reflects around the controls in the right column…

<img src=“http://textbook.textpattern.net/txpForumImages/txp4.0.4-fieldsets.png” alt=“Sampling of new Txp form widgets appearance.” />

space

The edit boxes (e.g., article bodies) have a new default font, if I’m not mistaken, which seems a bit sharper and easier to read (at least on WinXP using Firefox).

<img src=“http://textbook.textpattern.net/txpForumImages/txp4.0.4-codefont.png” alt=“Sampling of new Txp code editing font.” />

I might be missing something, and as for internal changes, I’m not certain yet.

Re: What´s new in 4.0.4?

Thanks Destry for summing it up, especially since there is no change log for 4.0.4 in the history.txt file mentionned above…

Re: What´s new in 4.0.4?

david, I think you misread that. The top line in History reads “Changes since 4.0.3”. This means those changes happened after the release of 4.0.3, meaning they will become available with the next maintenance release.

Re: What´s new in 4.0.4?

Added a few pix to my previous post above for visualization.

EDIT: And there’s a new image as a suggested change for the new Image Code Builder feature.
