No indication that sub forums have gotten new posts

Just a minor nuisance of the new organization. The blue dot that indicates new posts in a forum does not appear for the parent forum if a sub forum has gotten new posts.

For example “Contributing” does not indicate updates if “Textbook” has been updated. Don’t know if there is anything that can be done about it but I tend to rely on those a lot for cruising through the new posts.

I like the new organization though.

Ditto about the blue dots.

Ditto about the change. (Though I have to imagine that Dean doesn’t even look at this forum anymore, even if he did have the time.)

Also, considering that the top links bar is practically spelled-out now in full phrase form, I’m wondering what the worth of the “Resource Links” category is, especially since it’s been relegated to the bottom of the forum now. Is it really even needed?

Man, after 2 years of seeing it easy, I keep looking for Textpatter and have to take a few extra glances now just to pinpoint it. How about Textpatter (General Discussion) ? Just as clear, and easier on the veterans.

It wouldn’t. PunBB does not support true sub-forums. It’s an interim solution.

I’m wondering what the worth of the “Resource Links” category is…

It’s there for people that overlook the header. They exist. Even with both, they still aren’t getting looked at by some.

Re: No indication that sub forums have gotten new posts

Thanks for the Textpatter change. ;)

One more thing, and I don’t want to hound this but the Contributions area is not working as is. The part that is supposed to represent the main portion has only a few threads, and to be honest I don’t think what is there weighs greatly enough to warrant that position, not nearly as much so as the TextBook forum does, which has been relegated to a lower level. The TextBook forum is far more active and self-serving. Certainly anyone can see that. Heck, half of what those straggler threads cover are documented in TextBook anyway, and if there not they certainly can be.

Please, I implore, bring the TextBook forum back to the surface (allow blue-dot function again too). If you want to change the name and merge in some other threads, fine, I’ve got no problem with that, especially since you now have a header and footer TextBook link. As for a name change, “Community Contributions” could work, or “User Docs” … anything with a similar implication to community and reading up. We might take on another forum moderator too. I could continue with TxB stuff, someone else with whatever.

Please.

EDIT: Here’s even a newer idea, that might kill even more birds with the same stone.

Sorry to say, the forums are getting harder to navigate rather than easier.

That’s weird…I get the blue dots no problem.

Nonetheless I am curious if you are still thinking of switching software. I have a new client who wants a forum with a few more whistles and bells than PunBB without the vBulletin pricetag. Keep us posted!
