Seems like I had a PHP value set incorrectly and the new phpMyAdmin freaked out:

session.save_path = “C:\var-lib\tmp”

All’s well now running 2.8.2.1 on my Windows laptop.

Thanks to everyone for your input; this forum never fails when I need help.

@Hakjoon Even though I downloaded Ruby I ultimately took your advice about PHP and Textpattern.

@Lee I saw that book, and it was one of the reasons I was leaning towards Ruby. However, PHP just nudged Ruby aside.
