conditional display of google ads
hi,
I want to display Google ads, but only to visitors who came to the site via Google. Any ideas how to check for the Referer within Txp?
thanks.

Actually, I think that that is against the google TOS for adsense.
You should read up on it.

Err, I don’t see anything in the TOS that would forbid that. I did that on a site myself for a while. Not that you should take my word for it, better check them yourself.
To display that, you’d need a small plugin or a snippet of php that checks the referrer.

Yeah, I read through the Terms & Conditions and there’s a grey area here. You might want to contact them about it. The wording of it is failry vague and I’m not sure if this would be something that goes around their quote:
Implementation and Operation of Ads, Search Results, and Referrals. You agree to comply with the specifications provided by Google from time to time to enable proper delivery, display, tracking, and reporting of Ads, Links, Search Results, Referral Buttons, and Google Brand Features (as defined in Section 12 below) in connection with Your Site(s), including without limitation by not modifying the JavaScript or other programming provided to You by Google in any way, unless expressly authorized in writing by Google (including by electronic mail).

There was some other bit about pasting code in that is not altered or affected by anything on the page but when I went back to find it, I couldn’t.

Re: conditional display of google ads
You could do this without modifying their code by wrapping it in PHP and checking the contents of the HTTP_REFERER variable.
