Parent and child sections
I’ve seen quite a lot of discussion about this topic, but I really need a straight answer for a specific problem.
I’d like to know the easiest way to create parent and child sections (“parent” and “child” in terms of hierarchy, just so we’re all clear) with human-readable URLs and section breadcrumbs. For example, I have a section RESOURCES, and that section has several child sections including SAMPLE CHAPTERS, BIBLIOGRAPHY, and TIME MANAGEMENT. Thus, I would like the respective URLs to read “resources/bibliography”, etc. The breadcrumbs should also read “[sitename] >> resources >> bibliography”, etc.
So, what’s the easiest way to accomplish this? Do I need plugins, hacks? Can TXP do this already?
Thanks in advance for help!

Re: Parent and child sections
Textpattern 4.0.x has no support for nested sections.
4.1 probably will. Contact Team Textpattern if you need a solution before then.

There is also this plugin which may help.

Re: Parent and child sections
I’ve already used the subsection plugin and, as far as I can tell, it can only create a list of nested sections and doesn’t change the URL functionality. Thanks for the recommendation.

Re: Parent and child sections
What is the status of nested sections (like parent and child). I have a site to build that requires a hierarchy like this:
http://www.mysite.com/main_section1/sub_sectionA/article_name
Does the current Textpattern version support this or is there a reliable plugin to facilitate this functionality?
Many thanks

Re: Parent and child sections
No subsections yet. If you can use categories for the ‘subsections’, gbp_permanent_link might help you.

As Alex already said: 4.0.x has no support for nested sections, 4.1 probably will.
