[wiki] TxB Logo Enhancement...you know you want some
Time for another fun activity to keep that community spirit thing going.
Masa, over here, brought up the since-dead idea of creating a common theme among the family of Txp sites. Well, for those who have been around long enough, or simply remember, that was already debated a while ago and what you see is what you get. In any case, TextBook has a new design (realized by the dedicated work of David_1cog) that is not going to change anytime soon.
However, I am open to polishing up that logo a bit. What you see is only a half-finished job; it was intended to get a sun, ocean, and palm tree worked in, but I just never found the time. If anyone wants to take it up, by all means. Maybe a plume in the hat?
I’m also open to other visions for enhancement, but if I’m going to open that door then guidelines are needed:
- The base logo remains (man, hat, text), you simply add to it.
- If you want to convert the base to vector first and go from there, fine.
- It cannot be any wider than the existing left column (I’ll come back with it), but you can add up to another 50 pixels maximum to its height.
- You have until the 30 September 2006 to submit something.
- Submit as many visions as you want to create.
- Multiple submissions of the same enhancement with variations allowed (whether from same person or different people).
- Anyone with a Txp forum account can submit an enhancement (including me, if I choose to), as well as vote.
- When it comes time for voting, you cannot vote for your own. (did I even need to say that? probably)
- A vote for the existing logo is perfectly acceptable, but for the sake of entertainment and individual effort, you cannot make such a vote known until the voting period begins at the end of September. Any such votes made before said time will be void.
- _<strong>%{color:green}New%</strong>_ If at the end of the noted time period there has been zero submissions, the window for creative input on the TxB logo will firmly close and the logo will change (or not) at the whims of the admins only.
When you’re ready to submit something, make your entry available for downloading, contact me at this link, and let me know where the URL is at. I’ll keep them on file until the deadline passes, at which point I’ll post all of them here for community appreciation and vote.
The appreciation period will last for two weeks, ending 14 October 2006. In the event of a tie, Hakjoon, David_1cog (if he’s around), and myself (the wiki admins) will select the tie-breaker. The final selection will immediately take the place of the current logo and become non-copyrighted material (such is the rules for the wiki overall). All other submissions will be removed from this thread and considered the property of their respective creators (to be enforced by the creators themselves, not Txp or me).

<small>%{color:#6c6c6c}Many might have the notion to say the creative freedom is too restrictive, or that they don’t like the current reading man to begin with. While that is certainly plausible, the situation is not up for debate. Consider it a design challenge. If it really, really bothers you, then occupy yourself with something else. Call me a crotchety old man with no vision, it bothers me not. (In the event of a tie-breaker, bonus points from me if your enhancement at least includes sun, ocean, and/or palm tree.)%</small>

And the winner is…..nothing changes.
