Them’s fighting words ;)
I learned to program with Basic and the logic of it all just clicked one day for me. RPG, Cobol, C, Pascal all came easier after that. Now it’s these new fangled web languages, when will it stop!

Re: What is a good starting point for an aspiring programmer?
Robert,
The only thing I can recommend in terms of which language to pick is to start with one that you will be able to put to use as quickly as possible. For example if you are heavily into using TXP and want to write plugins I would recommend PHP.
Nothing is better motivation then creating tools you actually want to and can use. Once you have a decent understanding of one you can normally move on to other languages with greater ease.

Pascal is a good language to learn first, if you just want to learn how to program.

Case in point, have you tried phpMyAdmin 2.8.2 on Windows, what’s up with the fonts?
Seems like I had a PHP value set incorrectly and the new phpMyAdmin freaked out:
session.save_path = “C:\var-lib\tmp”
All’s well now running 2.8.2.1 on my Windows laptop.

Thanks to everyone for your input; this forum never fails when I need help.
@Hakjoon Even though I downloaded Ruby I ultimately took your advice about PHP and Textpattern.
@Lee I saw that book, and it was one of the reasons I was leaning towards Ruby. However, PHP just nudged Ruby aside.
Thanks again everyone.
