Fillip
In case anyone is interested, I have been making content and design updates to the site for the <a href=“http://fillip.ca”>contemporary art journal</a> that we run out here in Vancouver.
After using Textpattern for more than a year now, I am still been pretty impressed with the software. The Fillip site makes use of a few plugins (including a modified version of zem_article_img and a custom plugin that generates the random articles on the front page). The more I learn php and MySQL, the more I can see the potential power of TXP’s great plugin architecture. After working the last several months on a custom CMS for a client, I can really appreciate the effort put into this project. So thanks again!
Comments welcome. Yes, I know things are a bit wonky in IE Win, but what are you gunna do?
Anyone have a solution to ampersands in titles not converting to <code>&</code>?

Re: Fillip
I’ve just been encoding ampersands in titles. Doesn’t seem to break anything.
Black and white minimalist is a good choice for a site like this one. The italics on the home page prove a little hard to read, though, and the font-size elsewhere seems really, really small (1152×864). But – hey- I’m old. Also, the page breaks up on two font resizes. I think a clear: both element after the header would prevent that.
Interesting switchout on the search/login/form. The navigation to the left of it is a little bunched up on Firefox. (i.e. The hover arrow on staff/contact listing is butt-up next to the nav item next to it: Number Three: Summer 2006.) Doesn’t look like the form needs quite as much room as it has, so you might be able to give the other columns a little more breathing room.
Great content, too. :)

Re: Fillip
Wow, I really like this! I have always been a fan of simplicity and minimalism. Great work, but if I could just suggest a couple of things:
- The site needs a footer
- A bit better/more creative copy would do wonders with this site. Headings like “Older content” really kill the user experience, which I think can be at a really high level on your site.
- Typography: it sucks. While I like the georgia in the header, it is terrible in main content, and to make matters worse it is italicised. I think you should go with a sans serif type for main content since you have gone wit the really small font-size, I think your users will apreciate this decision/change. Try something like tahoma, geneva, verdana, sans-serif for your font-family CSS property.
Once again, really great work.
