Image and thumb of different filetypes?

In the site that I’m working on, it has worked very conveniently to use the thumbnail image in the “article list” (which is a product list, essentially) and then the main image as a title for the actual product page (client insisted on a certain font, so can’t just use the regular title), except for one thing:

I would like the title graphic to be a transparent gif, but when I make it such, the thumb won’t work unless it is a gif too.

I had been making the titles jpgs, but then I looked at the site in Netscape 7 (what the client uses) and noticed that because I was using negative margins, the non-transparent title graphic overlayed other text and images. I tried z-index and it was unsuccessful.

So I was forced to change the titles to gif. Which makes the thumbs larger by about 2k each due to the fact that they use photos, albeit small ones.

In short, I’d like to have an image be a gif, but it’s thumb be a jpg. Is it possible?

Not really, no.

In theory, sure. You’d need to rewrite several core functions though.

I might be a bit dense (likely), but couldn’t you manually upload a .jpg thumb with the TXP interface?

That’s what I am already doing. Problem is, if the original is a jpg, the thumb must be too.

I’m ok with it though. Just meant having to make one thing that was a jpg into a gif instead.

PS – where in Montana do you live? I’m in Bozeman.

Yes, it looks for an image’s thumb like this: {image id}t.{image extension}. So for an image “1.jpg”, it would look for “1t.jpg”.
