Problem with RSS/XML file
Hello
Please visit www.yonner.co.uk and click the “xml” link from the top of the page. Does that behave how it is supposed to or am I doing something wrong? I’ve specified a particular txp section and I think I did it right but when I click it I’m prompted to download a file. When I open that file it is indeed my XML file but that’s not how its supposed to work is it?
thanks in advance
Mark

Re: Problem with RSS/XML file
That is actually common behaviour. RSS feeds aren’t generally intended for viewing in a web browser without some form of extension or plugin. Your feed works fine if opened in a reader.
Just a note, you might want to set a default background colour for your site – unless you emant it to be the shade of pinkish orange I use for debugging :)

Re: Problem with RSS/XML file
thanks for that.
so there is an extension that makes the rss file be viewable in a browser?
Also, how can you view my site in pinkish-orange?

That’s what HTML is for. RSS feeds are not web pages.
If you need to view RSS feeds, use a feed reader.

Re: Problem with RSS/XML file
I’m not an RSS purist. Neither is the average website viewer.
It’s just nice to view the rss feed without downloading it first.

Re: Problem with RSS/XML file
The situation is exactly the same as for PDF, Flash, Excel spreadsheets, or any other non-HTML content. You need an external application for displaying the content. That’s what a feed reader is for.

Re: Problem with RSS/XML file
Some common extensions for Firefox are Sage and WSS. Both (ad a couple of others) are available from the mozilla-dev site by following the links from the Firefox Tools>Extensions menu. I don’t know if there are plugins for IE as I don’t use it on a regular basis.

Re: Problem with RSS/XML file
Purism aside, this works on my site: http://makeready.org. Yes, it’ll redirect you to feedburner. Then folks can subscribe there.
In the body:
< txp:output_form form=“feedburner” />
In the form:
< a href=“http://feeds.feedburner.com/foo”>{RSS Feed}</a><txp:feed_link label=”“ flavor=“rss” />
