Frustrated can't get anything to work

I have found TXP to be invaluable for blog sites. But this simple site has me at my ends rope with frustration. Stupid things that would never be a problem for me are driving crazy.
Some of my problems are just styling issues which are no problem. Others I don’t have any clue. Close home is the site the nav is put together with txp:section tags (thanks Els and Mary) Would it be better to use absolute urls

First problem is when you click on photo gallery (only section somewhat built) the nav becomes disabled in firefox pc and mac and safari but still works in IE. I have no clue why.

Second problem when you click on one of the thumbnails it loads the article accordingly but it makes the rest of the thumbnail nav disappear. Once again I have no clue where or how or why.

Related to the same thing I cannot figure out how to after the cap off of four articles to have TXP generate a new page with the old articles. Sort of like an autogenerated archive specific to the category i guess? Am I making sense?

Thank you to anyone who can shed any light on this. Sorry to be such a PIA

I’m using Safari right now, and it’s very odd: nav does not work in the photo gallery, but is okay in other sections I tried. You’re using identical code (or better yet, a form) for navigation, right?

Re: Frustrated can't get anything to work

Really strange about the nav… Ditto in Firefox, but it does work in Opera.

Second problem when you click on one of the thumbnails it loads the article accordingly but it makes the rest of the thumbnail nav disappear. Once again I have no clue where or how or why.

Is it possible that you are using <txp:article /> for the thumbnails as well as for the full image? I would think that <txp:article />, when on an individual article page, will always display only one article. Does changing the article tag for the thumbnails to <txp:article_custom /> help? (You’d need to use the section attribute there.)

Edit: I must add that pagination doesn’t work out of the box with article_custom, but there may be a way handcoding the page links and using the if_page plugin and the offset attribute in article_custom. (That’s just coming up in my mind right now, so don’t be too sure that will actually work!)

Re: Frustrated can't get anything to work

The reason that the navigation doesn’t work in the photo gallery is down to the css. You are using position:absolute for two divs, the navigation and the images. The image div is sitting on top of the navigation div (absolutely). As far as firefox is concerned, the mouse pointer is hovering over the image div, not the navigation div underneath and hence the links do not appear to work.

Try adding this to the navigation div in your css:

z-index: 1000

This will make it appear above everything.

I didn’t even think of that becasue the page was validating, but sure enough changing the z-index did it. Thank you!

Els I am using <code><txp:excerpt /></code> for the thumbnails and <code><txp:article /></code> for the body of the article which is just <code><txp:body /></code>
i don’t think i can hand code it because the idea is to be able to simple add articles with images and have them update and add pages as needed. I tried the pagination but I wasn’t sure how to get it to work or if that was what i needed.

Thanks
