New Pages/ Sections call up 404

I have created several new sections and pages and style sheets to correspond to each section. Typically I would be able to just type in http://myurl/mytxpdirectory/sectionname. But instead I get a 404 error. The main page at http://myurl/mytxpdirectory/ works but the error page doesn’t get called up or any other section. I am stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FAQ might help.

Re: New Pages/ Sections call up 404

I checked the FAQ played with the .htaccess , upon making any changes to it I lost the ability to display the main page and got 404 for everything. I did all in the FAQ. I am baffeld because one of my other sites hosted with this company works without a hitch. Setup the same except the installation I am working on now is in the root folder. I don’t see how that would have any bearing.

Would the urls to call up specific sections not be http://www.mysite.com/section_name ?

I even copied the .htaccess file from the other site which was

#DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
#Options +FollowSymLinks
#RewriteBase /relative/web/path

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^(.+) – [PT,L]

RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php </IfModule>

Even messy links did not help

Thanks Again for any help

Re: New Pages/ Sections call up 404

I have now altered the .htaccess to say

DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteBase /

and changed url order to section/title

the index page now shows but I still can’t access other pages. I will keep trying though.

Re: New Pages/ Sections call up 404

I always have this problem installing TXP locally in a subdirectory with XAMPP. The problem was a .htaccess file outside the subdirectory, if I remember correctly.

Though you’ve probably seen them, here are a few more threads:

Hope one of those works! It is much easier to give up and install TXP into the root though, if possible.

Re: New Pages/ Sections call up 404

Did you try removing .htaccess and switching to “messy” URL mode?

If you do that and still get 404 errors, you’re probably missing Textpattern’s main index.php file.

It might help if you post your diagnostics.
