Problem With Clean URLs After Upgrade

Hello everyone,

I wish to upgrade a site running Texpattern 1.0rc1 to the latest version, 4.0.3

Suspecting that this may not be totally straightforward, I made a complete copy of the site to experiment on.

Having successfully uploaded the files for 4.0.3, I have come across a problem which I can’t find an answer to.

When running 1.0rc1, in Admin > Site Preferences I had URL mode set to /clean/

There is no equivalent option after I upgrade. I can choose from ?=messy, /id/title, /section/id/title, /year/month/day/title, /section/title, and finally /title

None of these is the same as the old /clean/ mode, which produced URL’s using ‘section’ only.

Can anyone provide advice on how I can replicate the old clean URL mode?

This is important to me as there are a great number of hard-coded links to the old URLs.

I apologise if I someone else has already asked about this issue – I have done my best to find existing posts about this, but I’ve drawn a blank.

Thank you in advance

None of these is the same as the old /clean/ mode, which produced URL’s using ‘section’ only.

When you access a section, you will have a url with only the section in the url – it’s the same for all clean url-modes.

When accessing an individual article, obviously it is no enough to only have the section name. IIRC the old url mode used in the RC-versions was section/id/title.

Re: Problem With Clean URLs After Upgrade

Thanks for your answer Sencer – it all seems so logical now that you have explained it.

I am still having problems getting the site to operate as it should, but I suspect that these are unrelated to this specific topic so I won’t post them here.

Re: Problem With Clean URLs After Upgrade

Hi … me again,

I’m afraid I’m still having problems getting the site to work with 4.0.3.

The original site is here: https://www.selfcateringshetland.com/ This is runnning 1.0rc1

The development site, which I am testing the upgrade on, is here http://dev.selfcateringshetland.com/. I have upgraded to 4.0.3, and the admin side of things seems to be working fine. The problem is that I can’t access any of the pages pages in the public site – no matter what URL I try to go to, the homepage gets displayed.

FYI, I have permanent link mode set to /section/title. (It seems to make no differece what mode I use).

Here is the diagnostics:

Textpattern version: 4.0.3 (r1188)
last_update: 2006-07-10 10:49:37/2006-07-10 10:48:29
Document root: /home/nbcommunication/selfcateringshetland.com/dev/public_html
$path_to_site: /home/nbcommunication/selfcateringshetland.com/dev/public_html
Textpattern path: /home/nbcommunication/selfcateringshetland.com/dev/public_html/textpattern
Permanent link mode: section_title
Temp folder: /tmp
Site URL: www.selfcateringshetland.com
PHP version: 5.0.4
Server time: 2006-07-10 15:41:19
MySQL: 5.0.22-standard
Locale: en_GB.UTF-8
Server: Apache/2.2.2 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.2 OpenSSL/0.9.8a PHP/5.0.4
Apache version: Apache/2.2.2 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.2 OpenSSL/0.9.8a PHP/5.0.4
PHP mode: apache2handler
Operating System: Linux 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4smp

.htaccess file contents:
————————————
#DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
#Options +FollowSymLinks
#RewriteBase /relative/web/path/

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^(.+) – [PT,L]

RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php </IfModule>

#php_value register_globals 0

————————————

I’d really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. I’m sure that I’m probably doing something very stupid, but I can’t think what it is.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Regards

Re: Problem With Clean URLs After Upgrade

In rc3 (I think it was) clean urls changed to use mod_rewrite. Chances are that your host either doesn’t support it, or you need to tinker with your rewrite rules.

Re: Problem With Clean URLs After Upgrade

Thanks Mary – I’ll tinker with mod_rewrite and will let you know how I get on.
