files? What tags do i need?

HI there,

Ive just been messing baout with the file tab in textpattern. Ive never used it before and i have a few questions.

Firstly how do i catergorize files? Theres a spot there on the page for catergories but i cant see places to add new ones.

Secondly what tags do i need to use to get files to display on my site. I was thinking along the lines of a list of uploaded files in a div with a limit of how may can be displayed.

Thanks for any help

In content > organise you can add file categories.

Re: files? What tags do i need?

HI,

Ive put this txp code in to my page:
<code>
<txp:text item=“file” />:
<txp:file_download_link>
<txp:file_download_name /> [<txp:file_download_size format=“auto” decimals=“2” />]
</txp:file_download_link>
<br />
<txp:text item=“category” />: <txp:file_download_category /><br />
<txp:text item=“download” />: <txp:file_download_downloads />
</code>
Ive then tested it by uploading a picture but when i view the site this is the only thing shown:

file: []
Category:
download: Tag Links

Ami missing something?

Thanks

(edited to show code. -Els)

Re: files? What tags do i need?

Er… a picture? Don’t know if it should work with pictures. Can you try uploading a file like .doc or .pdf or .txt, see if that works? Your tags seem o.k.

Edit: On second thought, put this code in a form, give it type ‘file’, and call it on the page with <txp:file_download_list form="yourform" />.

Re: files? What tags do i need?

Yeah Nice one that works a good-un!

I was trying ssomething similar by using the default files form and calling it with this:

<code><txp:article form=“files”/></code>

Why wouldnt this work?

Re: files? What tags do i need?

It depends on the form type which tag you need to call it. An article form is called with <txp:article />, a link form with <txp:linklist />, a file form with <txp:file_download_list /> and a misc form with <txp:output_form />.

Re: files? What tags do i need?

Sorry about this!

Ive uncovered a few things i would like to ask about.

Firstly, in the file menu in the textpattern interface, when you upload a new file it gives you the option at add a description. Id quite like to be able to display this description on my site. Is there any way to do that?

Secondly, the parsed code for the file list doesnt appear to include a title tag for the a link, which makes the link a little un-accessible. Ive noticed in the link section of the interface theres a space for title and the parsed code shows this title. IS there any way i can do something so i can get a title for my file links or not?

lastly is there any way that i could include a link to my uploaded file in my article body aswell? For instance i may write an article about the uploaded file and then want to add a link to the article there. Is this possible?

I hope i not asking too much!

thanks

<txp:file_download_description />, it’s missing in TextBook.

As far as I know it’s not possible at the moment. You could hack the code if you know how to, or else post a feature request. It seems a reasonable request to me.

The only way I can think of is to handcode a link to site.com/file_download/id in your article, but there may be a plugin that I don’t know of.

Not at all, but you see I can’t answer all your questions ;)
