Files for download, status is "Missing"

I have a website still running 1.0rc3 I am having problems with. I have a “files” section that has been working fine. It contains .pdf files. Suddenly all the files have a status of “Missing” (when I go to “files” under “content”). Does anyone know where the files themselves are stored? Are they in the database? They don’t seem to be on the server. I uploaded a test file and it says status “OK”. But I can’t even find where that file is located. I checked the “files” directory, but it’s empty. The “file_upload” directory is set to /tmp but the files are not there, even the test file that I just uploaded.

They should be in your “files” folder. Check that the path to your files folder is correct (in advanced admin prefs).

And you should, you know, upgrade. :)

The “file_upload” directory is set to /tmp but the files are not there,

You should consider changing the directory to a more “permanent” place. It’s not unusual that the global tmp-directory gets cleaned by automatic processes from time to time.

Re: Files for download, status is "Missing"

Okay, I upgraded to 4.0.3, still couldn’t find any files when I upload — so they must be in a global tmp directory like you said, Sencer. I thought /tmp meant one level above my public directory but apparently it is a higher level on the server (it’s shared hosting). So that explains all the really strange files when I pull down “Existing Files” in Content->Files!

In Advanced Prefs I changed File Upload path to ../files, which apparently has to be set to 777. I tried to upload a pdf file, but I get this error message: Failed to upload file (db_add) I can’t find any info about this message in the forum, or the faq, or the TextBook.

Any ideas?

Re: Files for download, status is "Missing"

Okay, I figured it out, I can’t replace a file by uploading — that’s what the Failed to upload file (db_add) means apparently. Even though the status is “Missing” it can’t overwrite the filename in the database. But all that has to be done to restore the missing files is to move them to the files directory — txp picks them up automatically and changes the status to “OK”.

Re: Files for download, status is "Missing"

You should use the absolute path to the files directory.
This is different from the images directory which may be what confused you.
