add alt="" to image tags
Could the tag generators on the image tag add a ‘alt=”“’ to the tag when the alt value is blank? It would help with validation (i currently type it manually for every tag).
Also, we’ve talked before about making the column headings on the image tab “clickable,” like in the articles tag; couldn’t those pages also remember what they were sorted by last, and sort that way until changed (helps with sites like www.artandculturecenter.org, where the content is not date-based)?

Alesh,
You can place a default for the alt category via phpMyAdmin.
Also, the method of adding alt is in itself a way of giving photos, not a meaningless (validating) markup like “”, but instead something meaningful to folks who can’t see as well as you and I. I’m guessing that one of the devs is gonna come around and make some note to that effect.

uhh… where in db do i specify the default? and how do i specifiy a null value that’ll actually show up in the tag?
I understand the purpose of alt, though I find its “mandatory” status silly. On my blog, there is rarely anything I could say in the alt text for a picture that isn’t explained much better in the text right underneath it. A blind person will do just fine reading it; there’s no way an alt value of “here’s a picture of what you’re reading about” could be of help.

An empty alt attribute helps in certain uncommon constellations: When your site is visited with a non-graphical user agent (say lynx, or a common browser with image display disabled on a slow phone line), sometimes image file names are displayed in lack of an alt attribute. So this is a valid way of suppressing visual output for purely decorative images.
Try sitening SEO Analyzer and the text browser there for a test.

image, thumbnail, article_image, image_index, and image_display all add alt attributes (empty, if there isn’t a value).
image column headings are clickable and “remember” in svn.
