Attention Plugin Authors: Plugin Archiving at hand!
Many people are fine with the way plugins have been archived, and many others are pulling their hair out because they realize the way things have always been is less than perfect. In particular, if a plugin author’s site goes offline (or server is down), what does a person do if they want the plugin? As it is now they can’t do squat. In an effort to make it at least on step better for these folks, a new archiving process is available in TextBook.
Begin at Plugin Archive
(idea bubble started here)
The first page is instructions about uploading your plugin files and maintaining the archive tables. Meticulous wiki link syntax is described so be attentative.
Your are not obligated to use this resource, but remember it’s for the benefit of the people who will be using your plugins, even if your Web site is offline, so you might as well take advantage of the extra Google points your sure to get. Also note that anyone in the community is welcome to add your plugins to the archive themselves, so they may end up there even if you don’t add them yourself. If you don’t want your plugins added, make yourself heard in this thread and we’ll keep a list of non-players somewhere for people to reference.
Of course if you have ideas for improving the archive (within simple means and reason), please share your thoughts.
Go Portugal! ;)
