Table of ISO-693 Languages and Names
Chinese, Arabic and Right-To-Left language readers, please help!
Over the past few days I started compiling a table of ISO-693-1 languages and their English and native names for a multi-lingual plugin that I am starting to develop.
Now I would like to ask for community feedback and help in checking the table and completing as much as possible. If you could, please check the entries for all the languages you know and post here(or email me via the forum) if there is any error (like not being marked as Right-to-left etc.)
Please also let me know if I got it correct and I will mark the entry as confirmed.
This is what I have so far…

Steve, there’s also this reference in TextBook: MediaWiki’s language options. I’m sure it’s pulled from the ISO standards. In fact, you might check the ISO site itself, I’m sure they have a reference of all the latest.

Re: Table of ISO-693 Languages and Names
Destry,
thank you for the pointer. That is similar to what I am trying to produce here but not quite the same, I will try to skim as much from it as I can though. It seems to be a mix of ISO-693 part 1 and the newer versions of the standard (note the three letter codes) and some include sub-codes (example: Chinese). Ideally I want to collect language names in their own script, not in a romanised form, and most of the native script names are missing from the Textbook mediawiki page.
BTW, I intend making this available (once it is more mature) in the Textbook.

Nederlands O.K.
I thought Frisian was Frysk. Any real Frisians here? ;) (edit: well I’m pretty sure about that)
Kiswahili O.K. :)
Afrikaans & Italiano O.K.

Thanks for all those Els.
Actually, I didn’t know how to map all the Frisian alternatives into one name. It seems there are multiple variations even within the Northern, Saterland and Western flavours of Frisian.
- Northern: Frasche spräke; Frasch
- Saterland: Fräiske Sproake; Fräisk; Seelterske Sproake; Seeltersk
- Western: Fryske taal; Frysk
(Above taken from Geonames, I think I picked up the original form I used in the table from the Omniglot site.)
I’ll switch to your suggestion for now, pending any other input.

Re: Table of ISO-693 Languages and Names
In case no Frisian stands up, I think it’s indeed Frysk you need.

Re: Table of ISO-693 Languages and Names
Hey, Steve, that looks terrific, the greek one is correct, I’ll see if I can dig the official UNICODE Sites, to complement some of the missing info.

Re: Table of ISO-693 Languages and Names
Thank you to all who have responded so far.
Thanks to Els for pointing out the List of Wikipedias, that has proved very useful in providing the missing entries. I am only having trouble sourcing a unicode Tibetan font now to complete the list (for ‘dz’ and ‘bo’).

Re: Table of ISO-693 Languages and Names
The Tibetan is a little tricky, seems there is only one open-type font that is Uni-code capable http://www.thdl.org/xml/show.php?xml=/tools/tibfonts.xml&l=uva10928423419921
Language code is <strong>bo</strong> after ISO 639.2.
Language name ??
I doubt also, wether such a thing could ever be supported, since there are over a dozen differnent ways how the direction changes.
(stacked top, middle, bottom, rtl)

Re: Table of ISO-693 Languages and Names
Marios
I tried downloading the only Tibetan supporting opentype font I could find (the web version) but I can’t seem to view the example Tibetan text on the web. Perhaps I messed something up.
Not to worry, I am pretty happy to run with what I have pulled together so far.
