graphic design portfolio

I know there are some validation issues, apparently my flash code is bad. Youll need flash 8 plugin to get the navigation to work properly – all of the effects are actionscript, that took alot of effort to learn, since my actionscript knowledge is pretty poor.
Also, it is designed for a 1024 wide monitor on purpose.
The work on there is for showing to design firms, Im working on a more freelance based website for the bands Ive worked with and illustrations Ive done.

I like your art-work, specially that face made with Times New Roman.
A critic to the site: the flash menu. If someone doesnt have the flash plug-in or wants to navigate that site by using the keyboard (or many other issues, like disabilities), he/she wont be able to go to the different sections of the site.
At least, you should provide an HTML menu and hide it via CSS (display: none; or text—indent: -999em; or margin-left: -1000px or other CSS tricks to hide things)…

Re: graphic design portfolio
good point
my website is for graphic design firms though, a very specific audience, I imagine most of them wouldnt have many disabilities, but I will look into it.
so what you are saying is that I should make a simple nav, and just hide it off to the side? (like the “default” page that comes with TXP?”)

hi again
good point

yes, but you never know who is going to visit your site. And in this case, even Google (= the greatest blind) wont be able to navigate thru your site sections and collect important information that is behind the front-page of your site.
Yes, you can make a very simple nav and then hide it using any of the tricks that are there to hide content… but be careful! Some search robots won’t like sites that hide things…
Maybe, a second option is to recreate your navigation menu in the bottom of your site, as a footer… without the need of hiding it…

Re: graphic design portfolio
ah
I dont really have any information that I want google to know about beyond the front page of my website. My website is mainly available to people that I specifically send the URL to when applying to a job, for example, art directors, and creative directors. So, even though it is “public”, its mostly on a “need to know basis”. If you do a google search, my website comes up #2, these are all good points that you have brought up though… and I might implement them if it was a more ‘public’ site – which my other website will be……. it has a text navigation.
