Installation Problem - what am i doing wrong?

There is probably a simple answer to this question, but I cannot find it in any of the FAQ’s.

I followed the detailed instructions. I FTP’ed the unzipped textpattern files as directed. Files are on server. When I go to:

www.mysite.com/textpattern

I get 500 Internal Server error.

This is a blank site just created via my WHM. So I deleted the account and recreated the account and tried again with the same result. Even tried deleting all files under the root of the domain, so only the textpattern files would be there. Same result, 500 Internal error.

What might I be doing wrong?

OK. I installed to the public_html folder under my domain and it works.

Seems that this would be mentioned in the install directions somewhere.
