TXP integrated forum/message board?
Hi—
Quick question from a TXP newbie: is there a plugin/mod for a txp forum? I haven’t been able to find anything and want to exhaust my search before turning to a 3rd party source.
Thanks!

Patrick,
This might be a bit complicated if you’ve never used TXP before, but here’s a thread I’ve started on using TXP to power a forum. It’s still a bit experimental — but in order to get out of experimental, we need some folks to try it out.

Ben—
Thanks for the link! This doesn’t seem too difficult to undertake; however, it seems like a lot of work for a simple forum. Do you have an demo. up on your site (or know of any)?

Re: TXP integrated forum/message board?
Patrick,
Here’s a link to a test forum (for a TXP-powered forum).
A lot of people like punBB (this forum) and say that it works well with TXP — there are a bunch of plugins and there’s at least tutorials on integrating them (I’ve never tried it).
Here’s a plugin I found: http://textpattern.org/plugins/327/fgrpunbbinfo (and here’s the thread).
It seems like downloading 3rd party software, uploading, configuring, testing, learning how they do things in order to tweak design and code so that it fits your site, figuring out a way to integrate the user databases with TXP, etc, is plenty of work already — no less than “configuring” the TXP-powered forum I’ve proposed, I’d guess.
Of course, that’s assuming you need to integrate the DBs and the design — some folks don’t, then it’s just upload and go.
Hope that helps,
