Categorize? Why (only) two dropdowns? >> Confused noob <<

Hi,

I am sure this is easy answer for the folks that have used TP for more than a day… but, I can’t seem to find a clear answer anywhere.

Why doese content —> write section have two “Categorize” dropdowns? I can understand one category dropdown, but two is just kinda confusing.

I am going to assume that it would allow me to publish one article/post to two different categories… or only one, or none.

If my assumption is correct… for example:

1. I have two categories: “Fun”, “News”.

2. I post an article titled “My First Article” with category “Fun” selected.

Does this mean that “My First Article” is related to (obviously) category “Fun”, but also related to the default category of nothing? Maybe I should ask instead, does a non-category of default even count as a category?

Hehe, hope that is not a silly question. I ask because I may use some TP tags to check for category relation in order to seperate posts.

Anyway, my main question is most important atm… Why only two “Categorize” dropdowns?

Many TIA!
Cheers,
Micky

Some articles might need 2 categories.

Yes, My suggestion though is to always publish it to at least one category.

If my assumption is correct… for example:

No it means that the article is ‘filed’ under the Fun category. Txp has tags to just call articles either by category <code><txp:category /></code> or category as defined by the pull down menu on the top <code><txp:category1 /></code> or bottom <code><txp:category2 /></code>

Anyway, my main question is most important atm… Why only two “Categorize” dropdowns?

There is the rss_unlimited_categories plugin should you wish an article to reside under more than 2 categories

Rock on! You gave me the perfect answer.

After I posted this question I spent several hours messing-around with TXP and I think I am getting a better understanding of it all…. Man TXP KICKS BUTT!

I have been using Expression Engine for about a year now… it is cool if you do not care about optimization and/or code redundancy…. not to mention that it has a high learning curve – so many settings and a ton of bloat. I spent months working on a site that probably would have taken me days with TXP! Do not get me wrong, EE is a solid app, but TXP is FREE and much easier to use once one gets over the small learning curve.

Thanks again colak, you have been very helpful – I appreciate your time. :)

Cheers,
Micky
