determine what goes on category pages
My category links point at http://domain.com/category/in-the-news/
I’m a bit confused as to how I can decide what goes on the resulting page. Categories are not tied to pages in the same way as sections, so what template do i edit to determine what goes there?
I need someone to protect me from all the measures they take in order to protect me

Re: determine what goes on category pages
The template used to display the content is whatever page the section the article “in-the-news” is home to. Eg. if “in-the-news” is in a section called “current_affairs” it would use whatever page was specified for the current_affairs section.

Re: determine what goes on category pages
I think in this case “in-the-news” is a category, right? A category (list) page uses the default page template. With some handcoding you can make it use a section page template though, see Stuart’s article.

Re: determine what goes on category pages
thanks for your replies
say my sections are “usa”, “mexico” and “canada” and my categories are “in the news”, “culture” and “people”. does that mean its impossible for domain.com/category/in-the-news to show all articles from usa, canada and mexico that also belong to the “in the news” category?
I’m also a bit confused about the “list” thing. are there any sites or links that explain this concept?

On the contrary, that is the default behaviour. If you have a <txp:article /> tag on the default page template it will show all articles in category “in the news” when domain.com/category/in-the-news is requested. For domain.com/mexico/ it will show all articles in section “mexico”. Etcetera. This is because <txp:article /> is context-sensitive, meaning it will show only articles in the section or category that is requested.
I’m also a bit confused about the “list” thing. are there any sites or links that explain this concept?
A ‘list’ page is basically any page that is not an individual article. Did you read this? Also have a look at the links mentioned at the end.
