Newbie setting up Textpattern with godaddy MySQL database

Hi everyone,

I am trying to set up textpattern for the very first time. I looked through the FAQ pages and Textbook to try and find my answer first before I posted on the boards.

I googled “textpattern godaddy” and read on another message board that it is possible to use the MySQL databases that godaddy supplies with textpattern. I searched ‘textpattern’ in godaddy’s help section but it did not come up with any results.

My question is how do I setup textpattern and php on the webserver? Here is a list of the things that I have done so far:

1.) I downloaded the latest version of textpattern and unzipped the contents.
2.) I FTP’ed the associated files and folders to my webserver.

Now when I go to open up the /textpattern/ directory on the remote server for the web to get to the database setup screen, I get a 404 error. To troubleshoot, I inserted my own .htm file to see if I could view that file inside the directory that textpattern is being held. When I input that address into the browser, it shows up. I am out of troubleshooting ideas, and I know that I am missing a step and was hoping that the forums could help.

I am not very familiar with php at the moment so is there something with php that I have to install on the MySQL database? Do I have to contact godaddy to setup php to be able to use it? Please any feedback would be gladly appreciated. I tried to detail my problem out the best I could.

Thanks for the reply sencer. I did uncomment the line and that did not work. I also wanted to add that I am using Windows hosting plan through godaddy currently.

I recently tried to get Txp running on a windows server at godaddy, nothing but problems. I ended up switching my friend to a linux box instead. No problems after that. Took about a day for them to do it.

Thanks for the reply HedgeHog. How would I go about switching to a linux box? Would I have to switch my plan at godaddy or find a new domain provider altogether? Would all of this cost additional money? Any other feedback or links to where I can find more information is gladly aprreciated.

Well, that’s not surprising if you are on a windows server. You’ll have to change the equivalent setting in IIS. To see if that would really solve your problem make sure the following holds true:

bq .Now when I go to open up the /textpattern/ directory

gives a 404. But going to /textpattern/index.php works. If that is the case, simply ask anyone with even a very basic understanding of IIS and he should be able to help you.

As far as changing to a linux box at godaddy: I hand my friend put in a support ticket and godaddy handled it. I don’t think you have to cancel, then sign up again. His site was down for about 24 hours while they switched servers.
