Hi and welcome,
the excerpt at the bottom of each article is normally used to write the short form of the main article. You can choose to have the only the excerpt (txp:excerpt) show in a list of articles with a link (txp:permlink) to the main article in which the whole article is written (show txp:body instead of/as well as txp:excerpt depending upon how you set it up).
Or you can use a plugin to automatically generate the short form after a certain number of words: see this forum entry.
