calendar web apps, recommend for customization, rss, usability

Hey TXP,
A cllient of mine, is realizing that the article driven events list available to him in the setup I first developed for him isn’t going to be enough for his organization. He’d really like

  • a larger calendar overview.
  • ability to see things for months ahead
  • ability to have those grid calendar events output as a list of the 3 upcoming events on the home page
  • etc.

I noticed that Google maps is doing some of this kind of thing, but its not nearly as customizable as I think he’d like it.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks.

Matthew

As much as it pains me, it’s still the most customizable and usable calendar I’ve found: http://cgi.resourceindex.com/detail/00597_01.html
We have staff and faculty that input events: http://web2.colum.edu/calendar/ (that’s our install of it.)

Yeah, there are not any really good customizable self-hosted calendars out there right now.

There are a few other’s being hosted in other places like: http://hipcal.com/ or http://www.planzo.com/ or http://calendar.google.com

My solution is usually to let them use those, or publish their iCal file to the server and then parse it or the RSS feed from the hosted versions with PHP to display events coming up.

Yeah. It was incredibly hard to get it to even that level of customization.
The developer is semi-responsive.

The overriding factor, though, is that, as you can see from the Columbia College install, we can actually get our staff and faculty to use it and post events in it.

Unfortunately the developers website no longer seems to exist.

Thsi looks like it has potential … <a href=“http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php”>http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php</a>

Craig’s project is probably the most robust PHP calendaring app, it’s a swiss army knife of options. I ran it for a time on one of my websites and I liked it, though it was a bit hard to style.

There is no standalone PHP calendar that I’ve found that would adhere to the KISS principle, and I’ve been looking for sometime. What I’ve began to look at is using a calendar from a Groupware or other type of integrated suite, just break out the calendar if that’s possible.
