Re: Improving TXP Image Management

I brought it up because I do think it’s important (what’s the point of clean urls when you’ve got “messy” image urls).

jameslomax: you’re absolutely right. It doesn’t help much to have a good naming system when nobody can get the images into that system.

That is why I suggested the feature of having ability to upload images to additional folders which don´t rename images. Most of the time, image renaming is easy and handy way, sometimes it is not. That way we could have both :D

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

p,
either that could work, or a javascript error suggesting you are about to replace an image? (I’m guessing this would work?) dunno?

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

We deal with about 200 not very savvy CMS users at work and so far not a single one has had an issue with the concept that images have to have unique names. we could always offer to add a multiplier for them automatically. I think FCKEditor’s file browser does that if it hits a conflict.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

mmmh… I don’t really get it. If we find a way to call the images with their name, than the renaming wouldn’t be an issue. Or would it?

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

If the Windows OS can alert you before overwriting or replacing an existing file why couldn’t TXP?

Pixelpost has an interesting file naming system (although the front end fetches a pics link by the order in which it was originally uploaded). I think the option to personally/individually title a single pic should be there. Also, I see no reason for not allowing the complete rebuilding of the image list db (not just titles) if an administrator feels it neccessary.

Batch uploading should probably be a seperate issue… maybe just alot batches an initial time based ID in its own seperate folder – each pic receiving a sub numeral… then give options to individually rename/title each pic (or several) before a final rebuild database function literally recreates a new db with the admin user’s newly submitted information.

Folder creation/placement from within TXP is a must imo. Just a catch all image folder is a nightmare scenario looking at 500+ pics from within an ftp client (in any odd situation or moving a site etc). Plus, with seperate folders user allowances could then be more finely tuned or expanded – ie salt to taste.

Help

i did talk to Nils and started writing the concept/proposal. It´s a lot of work people and i noticed we need help -> 2 guys/girls (best designers) to put screenshot together to visualize the concept step by step. This is especially important for programmers so they know what to do. Please send me an email if you have some time left to do the screens. thanks.

(sorry, i am very tired and my english is bullshit by now)

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

I don’t think it has been mentioned yet : I have just discovered google pages. And the image upload and use is surprinsingly simple and effective.
