How does the exerpt work?

If you look at http://www45.brinkster.com/wazzupflow you can see that I want to have an excerpt of the latest article ive written, and then underneath a list of the previous 5 blogs with small descriptions. I am having trouble getting the excerpt to work like i want it, is this even possible.

How do you want the excerpt to work? Also, have a look at the auto-excerpt plugin.
