Re: Improving TXP Image Management

I like the static page, Skubidu!

Also, I just noticed this annoying behavior today (updating older images). When you edit an image from say page 3, once you save it, you’re returned to page 1. Maybe there could be an admin option, “Remember my place?”

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

Worth a look: improved image uploading

Not sure why there’s no forum thread about it, because its worth knowing about.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

There is a forum thread about it: Have a look
The plugin was formerly know as nhn_image_import and aba_image_import.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

Came across this today on a Freshmeat announcement.

PHPImageMage is a web-based tool for uploading and editing/modifying images. Amongst its capabilities are thumbnail-creation, rotating, resizing, watermarking with either an image or text and adding of IPTC-tags. Written in PHP and uses the GD-library.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

interesting.
It seems like there is relatively all the same functionality we have currently, except for iptc and overlay stuff?
Is that accurate?

Textpattern has: Create thumbnail – other features via plugins.

PHPImageMage has: Resize image – Rotate image – Overlay image – Add IPTC-tags – Create thumbnail

All this in a 271 line php file and it’s associated 175 line front-end html file. Just thought it could be useful to learn from or use.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

fairplay. Not being a coder I need to be fed some of this stuff slowly. I think that’s a good idea. At some point, it seems like some of the cropping technology I’ve seen out there would be handy, but perhaps thats a bit too advanced or complicated? dunno.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

After reading the whole thread thru and based on feedback from clients, I agree that it would be easier if the image insertion feature would be integrated more efficiently into the write/edit article screen.

Image Wizard feels very interesting and promising, is it still on development or was it just a idea? Did check the wiki page too.

Another idea/suggestion with image handling is movable type solution that user would be allowed to choose the destination folder for the image, see screenshot.

I also do agree that the image list is not necessary needed in the popup window or lightbox or what ever image insertion window it is going to be. Image list is awesome feature to have but that can stay under the image tab like it is now.

Basic user needs an easy way to insert images. Current plugins are very good but the features like custom form, image widht etc. in upm plugins are just too geeky for an non tecnical end user.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

p,
I think the moveable type idea is interesting and nice.
a hierarchical structure of images. From a user standpoint, I see that as a hindrance and something more to learn? but personally its appealing.

As I take the summer off from client work, I really hope I can dig into this more on a proposal level.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

To many people, FTP is a big scary Lordi-like monster. Sure, there is some learning involved but at least all the uploads would happen in a friendly TXP enviroment.

Let´s take an example, site has folder /images/ which is by selected by default like it is now and this is the folder from where system picks up images for posts etc. List of these images is in the Images admin like it is.
Additionally, it would be very handy, if you could upload via the system files to folder /banners/, /myphotos/ etc. I don´t see it necessary to have these listed too. And yes, with these user choosable folders, it would be better if images/files are not renamed by numbers.

From my knows-hardly-anything-about-coding point of view, the basic tecnique for this feature allready exists since there are file uploads which are uploaded to /files/

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

So whats happening with this guys – any news?

We’ve discussed a few ideas, given examples, made requests, etc – my own points concerned a multiple column navigation page, and an integrated image insert function in the article write page (which P mentions above also), which is just as important as the text area if you frequently work with images.

I’d hate to see this momentum die out……..
