How do I change domain names?

Hi all. YAY. My first post.:D How do I change my domain name from http://oinx.us to http://wordgasm.com without disrupting all my files and links? I’m more of a graphic designer than a web designer, by the way, so I don’t exactly know everything about server/hosting stuff. Thanks for reading.:D Wish for a response.

edit:

From the previous posts that I’ve read, all I know is this:
1. back up my files from my host
2. erase the files in the host?
3. change DNS settings and domain name in the host
4. upload all my files except for the old textpattern folder, and replace that with a fresh textpattern installation
5. and that’s all I know. :c

Did you see this?

Re: How do I change domain names?

yes I have seen that. but that’s for changing hosts. I was able to change oinx.us to wordgasm.com, but I don’t know what else to change other than the .htaccess and the Site URL at the Admin » Preferences. The only remaining problem I’ve found is that the images in my articles are not showing up. They’re based on textile, which means they are formatted in this way:
!/folder/image.jpg!
. Unfortunately they are published in this format

with my old site’s name in tact. Isn’t it suppose to end up like

? Perhaps there’s something else around the database or wherever that I have to change… but I don’t know where.:s

Re: How do I change domain names?

You also need to change the file paths in the advanced preferences for the Temp folder and the File Upload Path. About the images, I’m sure somebody else mentioned the same problem somewhere in the forum. I know there is a solution… re your path it should read

Re: How do I change domain names?

i used /folder/image.jpg for mere example, but yes, it should read

. they’re set on the right folder/path. but it still wouldn’t work.:( thanks for the help though

Re: How do I change domain names?

 1. You have to change your config.php to point to your new Textpattern path.
 2. You have to change your site url and other paths in admin prefs.
