Request: Guestbook revisited
Hi ya all!
If I have understood correctly, Guestbook-plugin is not supported anymore by the plugin author.
So the question goes, I there anybody that would be willing to take this over? Having a guestbook on a site is kinda retro but still popular and sometimes makes sense. Off course there are plenty of 3rd party scripts to use making a guestbook but sure many agree that it is more convenient and nicer to have guestbook managed under same installation than rest of your TXP driven site.
The guesbook-plugin is allready a very good one. What would make it even better is full functionality with other, mainly comment styling plugins and ability to add custom fields, e.g. comment submitters country or what ever information is preferred so the output could be for example

Re: Request: Guestbook revisited
Hello,
I have looked at the source of the guestbook plugin and it doesn’t pass the full context needed through to the comments form (and it does it’s own custom substitutions with the comment tags) which is why comment plugins like Andrew’s and mine cannot do their thing.
I hope to try out a mod hack to the guestbook plugin with doggiez soon but I don’t want to take on support of this plugin; everything I have done with it should be considered a hack!
BTW, are you sure the original author has stopped supporting/developing it?

Don’t expect too much, it is only an experiment!

Re: Request: Guestbook revisited
Update:
I have made progress with the hack to the guest-book plugin and doggiez (Els) has confirmed that it works with the styling available from the comment pack. However, the comment numbering still needs to be sorted out so it is not ready yet.
You can check it out for yourselves on Els’ site. which is being driven by the combination of the hacked guest-book and the comment pack.
P I don’t have any plans for addressing your request for custom fields in the comment form/guest-book. Perhaps someone else is willing to pick that up? Otherwise you could request your guests simply to start their post with their country of residence for now.

Re: Request: Guestbook revisited
All
it’s ready now. You can take a look at it in action on Els guestbook page.
Instructions and download are here.
You will also need to upgrade to at least version 0.3 of the comment pack to get numbering of the guestbook comments working.

Re: Request: Guestbook revisited
You’re welcome.
Please could you help me answer any questions that may arise out of people starting to use the two plugins together in live sites. You have more experience of that side of things than I do.
I will, of course, answer what I can!

Sure, if it’s not too php-ish ;)

Re: Request: Guestbook revisited
Ehmmmm, I’m still here, but not reading the forums much…. Version 1 was working fine with Txp1.0, but txp4.0 introduced a whole new comment code base which I needed to adapt my plugin to. When I released guestbook4.0, it worked with txp4.0 (basix, albeit I didn’t try any extra comment plugins). This plugin needs to be rewritten from scratch, taking the new comment code as starting point.

Hey Sander, we thought we lost you ;) Please don’t blame Steve, he took this up on my request.
Do you mean you want to support and develop your plugin again?
