If you put the txp:php code inside your article form, you can do this without the database query. dmp($GLOBALS['thisarticle']); for a starting point.

The problem with that is that the “web part” location does not reside in the same area (column) as the article form location. At the moment, my template is made up of tables, I figured I would css it later when I had more time.
