textpattern as an application framework for a specific project

hello,
i’m on the cusp of farming out a little web dev project but i’m always curious whether i could potentially use something almost off-the-shelf; something actively developed with a helpful community. i’ll start by describing one piece of functionality for this project that i wouldn’t know how to do using only txp and any plugins i’m aware of.

step 1: user registers (or logs in somehow… such as typekey or openid)
step 2: user uploads image, which is scaled down and/or converted to jpeg if neccessary
step 3: image is voted (yes/no) upon by other users (or rated on a scale of 0-1, if that makes more sense)
step 4: images are sorted based on number of yes votes

i realize this is pretty basic stuff, so let me add that there is a great deal of additional functionality that i’ve sorted out using txp and/or plugins already. it’s this piece that’s vexing me.

any comments will be very much appreciated.

thank you for reading,
gabe

What about these two plugins? mem_self_register and tcm_rating

Theres a lot of “Hot or Not” scripts out there, sounds like similar functionality to me?

I heard recently that Coppermine image gallery has a cool new AJAX frontend too?

Might be 2 things worth looking into?
