Pros and cons of Permanent link modes

Hi,

Being relatively new to Textpattern and not having that many articles in the sites I currently have running, I started pondering life down the road.

All my TxP sites are using /section/title as the Permanent link mode, I just like the way it looks. Now, with this decision comes the knowledge that I have to pick my titles carefully or else I’ll have dupes.

So I throw out this question or inquiry, to those that have been using TxP for sometime, how has your experience been with the various link modes? Have you found one better than others, one worse than others?

This is a decision one must make early on before your pages get spidered, or else there’s no turning back.

Re: Pros and cons of Permanent link modes

Just to follow up on my own post.

Spent the better part of the day yesterday experimenting with all the Permanent link modes on my local server and visiting sites at TXP Magazine. What I came away with that it depends on the site you are creating.

So I settled on this:

For my personal blog: /year/month/day/title
For all my other sites: /section/id/title

At least this eliminates worrying about duplicate titles. Now let’s see how the search engines react to the new link modes. Wonder if they’ll spider all over again?
