multiple level site structure (was: 10 problems...)

Hello everyone. I am just about 12 hours in using Text Pattern. and I have really no idea what I am doing. I have managed to set up the site here <a href=“http://www.cityhistories.net”>http://www.cityhistories.net</a> and customize the themes look a bit. But that’s about it. What I don’t know is – if you go here: <a href=“http://www.cityhistories.net/This-site/2/welcome-to-cityhistoriesnet#comment”>http://www.cityhistories.net/This-site/2/welcome-to-cityhistoriesnet#comment</a> I do not see how a user can post a comment? Why isn’t the comment form showing? I have comments enabled all through out the admin. – How do I really install an add-on? For example: <a href=“http://textpattern.org/plugins/312/ajwcommentalt”>http://textpattern.org/plugins/312/ajwcommentalt</a> this one here. What does it say here? its all gibberish to me at the moment. I went to admin>plug-ins and pasted the gibberish codes and they showed the php output and now its enabled. but it doesn’t do anything? I can understand I am missing something but what? A World Continent —-Under this main section there needs to be 7 continents. ———Under each continents there needs to be all the countries. ————-Under each countries there needs to be all the cities. 
All users must be allowed to post in all the cities. Not just as comments but also the ability to write new articles. – there is no navigation menu in the site? why is that? <a href=“http://www.cityhistories.net/”>http://www.cityhistories.net/</a> – there is no login form for the users to login or register? or that is not available here? – in this URL: <a href=“http://www.cityhistories.net/This-site/2/welcome-to-cityhistoriesnet#comment”>http://www.cityhistories.net/This-site/2/welcome-to-cityhistoriesnet#comment</a> my post is repeated why is that? I am SO very lost I have no idea what I am doing. I can understand it might be hard for me to understand all these but I would surely like to try.

Just a few answers to get you started ;)

Check if ‘Automatically append comments to articles?’ is set to ‘yes’. Also read this: Comment display confusion.

Look in the ‘help’ for the plugin, you’ll need to add some tags where you want it to work. If you’re still having problems with it, ask in the plugin thread.

You’ll have to create one yourself ;)

Textpattern is not something that works out of the box. You’d better start with reading through TextBook. From there you will also find links to other resources.

About comments, take a look at this. Might be the solution?

Login form is not something that is supported by default thou you can add it

For users to register you need a plugin

For a plugin to work, it usually also needs a tag (defined in plugin help file and/or support thread) you use to call the plugin.

I recommend that you use the search feature here in the forums, many of the questions have often all ready been answered :)

Hello.
i followed your instructions and the comments box is now back and working like a charm :D
The login form seems to be working like a charm as well. (i cant believe i made it work though lol)
i went here: http://textpattern.org/mods/41/ but there is no download link for the mod self register?
Can anyone please tell me where i can get one?

correctly?

We can’t see that, you have to be logged in to see your admin pages. And that’s a good thing too. If you want to show something from your admin pages, you’d better post a screenshot.

umm sir i mean shouldnt a user be able to register via that URL?
i can see this page fine and i believe its the same mod as this one:

Yes sir i am already there. There is a version complication there as well as you should see from my response there. None the less i am sure the creator would be able to solve all the problems :D
But one of my other questions here regarding the hierarchy i mentioned before in the post:

Slashdot,

Continents doesn’t change and there’s not a lot of them – let them be categories?
Countries as keywords/custom1? (using categories here would make a the hierarchy hard to manage and use IMHO)
Cities as custom1/custom2? (you can rename this field on the admin side)

so posting a new articles would be like:

category: Europe, keyword: Finland, custom1: Helsinki
category: Europe, keyword: Sweden, custom1: Stockholm

So kind of a poor way to tag. Browsing articles after continent level might be akward but that’s a different and smaller problem.

You could also use a tagging plugin – depends how you like viewing/formating the results. (could be more wiser way than my idea)
