export and back up

I’m wondering about the feasibility of exporting and backing-up an entire site: the database, the txp files, and all the templates, forms, css, etc.

At the moment, we have mcw_templates and Rob’s database back up plug in, which are great.

Would it be possible to blend these two plug ins, or develop another one that runs them both with a convenient one-click operation which, together with the sql software also saved onto a hard drive, would enable you to back up an entire site and run it off a hard drive, or CD?

If not, would it be possible to do this with these operations:

  • Run mcw_templates
  • Run the DB back up
  • Install sql software (is it called mysql server?) on hard drive
  • Install and configure txp for local operation
  • Burn onto CD

….and enjoy the benefits of a secure and portable site. Not only for back up purposes, but also for general utility. If, for example, you wanted to show someone your site but you or they are not connected to the internet, or the connection is faulty, or if your host server is running slow, or if they’re experiencing technical errors.
