www.latinamerika.nu
I thought I would tell you abit about my latest project: www.latinamerika.nu (swedish: it’s one of Swedens leading sites about current events in latin america).
It’s 100% TXP and uses sections and categories to make sure the articles end up in the right space.
There are basicly four sections of articles:- News: These are general news articles
- In depth: These offer a more in depth analysis
- Fact: These are facts about the countries covered
- Boxes: These are the grey boxes under the searchbox. Their purpose is to highlight certain articles, events.
Articles are generally listed under both the article category (ex: Environment, Equality….) and the country that the article is written about (Brasil, Peru…).
The contry menu is generated from the categories that belong to the main category ‘Contry’.
Same goes for the article categories tabs. This makes it possible to add countries or categories in the future.
Category pages show news articles to the left, in depth articles to the right.
Country pages show both news and in depth articles to the left, and a menu of fact articles to the right.
We developed a few functions, like listing categories belonging to categories etc.
Also there is a fair bit of < txp:if… > < txp:else /> going on aswell to make sure that the right articles get listed properly.
This site has about 20-30 editors and already they have over 300 articles.
If you have any comments, I’m eager to read them!

I dont understand a word, but looks like you have much content.
Can you tell me, how you manage the workflow with 30 editors.

It looks great, I am also curious about how everything gets kept straight with that many contributors.

Very interesting and goodlooking site, Henrik. So I take it that you didn’t develop your search plugin any further, as the site doesn’t seem to be using it? ;)

Re: www.latinamerika.nu
Bastian & soulship: fortunately I’m not incharge of the site, we only built it for them.
We wrote a manual on what kind of article goes in what section and how to categories them. The rest is handled by TXP, custom code and some < txp:if… > < txp:else />.
Since it’s so easy writing articles in TXP (textile!) we ‘only’ had to make sure that articles end up in the right places. And that was solved with sections and categories.
The problem was first to figure out how we would solve the problem with articles being displayed in different places on the site (both under categories and under countries).
And then see what TXP could do and what parts we needed to develop ourselfs.
Els: I’m sorry but no. I underestimated the time I would need to make it as good as I wanted it to be. Also, when I read that TXP would support PostGre aswell and that a future release of TXP will support searching several words at once, I stopped.
Hope you, or anyone else, is not too disapointed.

No, not really ;) I just thought your initial plugin very promising. But you’re right not to put too much energy into it, we’ll just keep waiting for this future TXP release…
And again: great site!
