Peminoz - Stu Hall's Blog

Hi,

I’m Stu, from England and Peminoz is my first attempt at both a Textpattern site and a blog.

It is currently undergoing a ‘Live Design’ process as I thought it was best to just get it up and running, so if there are any errors I might already know about them, but please do let me know and bear with me!

Hopefully someone will be able to help me: on the (few!) pages that people have left comments, the site structure breaks and I’m not sure why this is. I installed a couple of plug-ins (ajw_if_comment_owner) and it broke it, but when I uninstalled them there is still an error in my XHTML that I don’t know how to remove – div class=“comments” “ – how do I remove the extra “ ??

Is this the reason the site is breaking or am I barking up the wrong tree? The site was fine before I installed though.

Many thanks,

Stu

First of all: Very nice design!
And second, I´m no better than you so don´t take this too hard… or at all.

Just a thought really:
The big background image is too big (about 135 Kb) that means it´s kinda slow when you load the site. Have the same problem myself and work on a “solution”, chopping up the images in smaller bits… (different divs). At least you can see the site being built in that way. It also make life easier when you decide to put some content in those areas (divs).

I´ve also had problems with comments breaking the layout (in IE). You could take a look in your CSS and look for paddings and margins that you could live without. IE handle these things very poor and very often place content elsewere when it thinks it doesn´t fit. very common IE problem, search this forum

You may wanna take a look at CSS Vista

Hope that could be starter at least.

Re: Peminoz - Stu Hall's Blog

Hi Skoggy,

I don’t take it hard at all! Thanks for replying.

Yeah I know about the main bg image; I’m working on a ‘simple’ alternate stylesheet where the image is a very small one! It is a live design so there are a lot of issues to resolve. In my ‘modern’ browser stylesheet I’m ‘building up’ the image over various pngs and looking at other options as well. The problem is reducing the image size without cutting it really loses quality. I’ll let you know if I find a work-around!

Yeah… I’m not sure it’s a padding issue because I don’t really use it that much (box model etc), I try not to. My issue is that the site worked perfectly before I installed that plug-in and now it doesn’t… If you view the HTML you can see the div class=”comments” ” which is driving me nuts as I can’t remove the extra “ !

It almost reminds me of the joshuaink site by john oxton. I do very much like it though. Good work!
