Category sections do not work.

This is in reference to this topic I posted earlier, but has since been moved.

I still do not understand how to fix this.

I do not have a section named “default”. The only sections I have are “article”, “archive”, and “contact” for now. Might this have something to do with why the category sections will not work? I am actually getting pretty frustrated with how the functions and things in textpattern work. I would much rather just be able to look at hardcoded material. It’s a little less confusing if you ask me.

Where is the best tutorial about how to set a website up using textpattern? I still don’t understand how these sections, categories, and forms all work together. I need to get this website up and running as fast as possible.

I think I might be getting what a section and what a category does backwards.

Say I wanted to write a few articles on a video game, and another couple on a movie. Under my current setup I have a <b>section</b> called “articles” in which I will put two <b>categories</b>: One called “Games” and the other called “Movies”.

If I assign my video game articles to go under the category “Games” and the movie articles to go under the category “Movies”, I would like to be able to access a list of those articles when I click on their respective category. This is how I have come to understand textpattern to work.

I could be wrong… but do I need to assign two <b>sections</b> called “Games” and “Movies” and put them under the <b>category</b> “articles”?

I do not have a section named “default”. The only sections I have are “article”, “archive”, and “contact” for now.

Go to txp > presentations > sections. The top item in the list, just below “Create”, should be “Default”. It’s a special section that represents the home page. There’s no way to delete it.

This FAQ gives an overview of how sections, pages, categories and so on fit together.

Sections don’t belong to categories. Sections and categories are independent.

Well slap me sideways! I should have realized that… Oh well.

I also realized that I had <code><txp:article_custom /></code> instead of <code><txp:article /></code> on my default page. That was messing me up in some places as well.
