[request] Widgets

Has anyone seen Wordpress widgets ?

In a nutshell, it’s a plugin that allows users to reorder their sidebar with ajaxy drag-and-drop from within the admin interface, without the need to know any HTML.

I’ve been wishing of a plugin like this because it would allow my clients to more easily manage their textpattern powered sites. If there was such a plugin for textpattern, I’d say textpattern would become as powerful as mambo or drupal for content publishing, but without all the extra bloat.

Please, please someone make a plugin like this for Textpattern… By the time I learn how to do it myself, I’ll be all grown up :(

I make absolutely no guarantees, but it seems like something interesting, so when I get a chance, I’ll take a looks into it.

My Photoblog, and my personal site. Got nav? ako_nav.
Thanks for taking the time to look…

Seems like widgets are the new in thing. Six Apart has also launched their own widgets for Typepad.

Re: [request] Widgets

Something like this would be particularly useful for themes. A theme could define one or more widget containers (in sidebars or whatever). The user can assign widgets to those containers, so they can change the layout without touching templates or forms.

Each widget could simply be a plugin tag handler. Something resembling the Tag Builder would allow the user control the widget’s behaviour by selecting and entering attributes.

I heartily endorse this event or product.
