problem with files
I downloaded the install zip and uploaded the files onto my server. When I open the files in Dreamweaver, they are blank. I tried opening them in WordPad, and they aren’t blank. I’ve opened hundreds of downloaded, compressed scripts and this has never happened. Anyone ever had a similar problem?

Re: problem with files
Please see <a href=“http://textpattern.com/faq”>the faq</a> first and foremost.
Textpattern requires PHP (a server-side scripting language) and MySQL (database) to function. That means that all the code that makes TXP run properly (the PHP is everything between the <?php ?>
when the raw text is viewed) is processed on the server machine, then sent to your browser as regular HTML/XHTML. The reason you saw a blank page in Dreamweaver is because you were, more than likley, looking at it in layout mode. If viewed in the raw code (it’s been years since I’ve messed with DW, so I can’t remember what they call it) you will see the code.
If your web-server does not have PHP and MySQL installed, then you not be able to run TXP.
More detailed answers can be answered by googling (yahoo-ing?…who does that anymore?) “PHP”, “MySQL”, etc.
If I’ve covered stuff you already know, forgive my assumptions. I just wanted to make sure I covered all the bases.

Re: problem with files
Thanks for your input, whatbrick. It’s not in layout mode, though. I think something else in Dreamweaver is a little off.

Perhaps we’re talking past each other here?
Why are you trying to open these files locally in Dreamweaver <strong>after</strong> uploading them? Presumably, you edited the config files before you put them on your server, so everything you do now should be done via your browser.

Re: problem with files
I redownloaded them and they seem to work now. Don’t know what happened, but it’s working now. Thanks for your comments, guys.
