windows XP on a mac

Maybe some people might be interested.

<a href=“http://wiki.onmac.net/index.php/HOWTO”>wiki.onmac.net/index.php/HOWTO</a>

The method allows dual booting systems. For simpler explanations <a href=“http://nirlog.com/2006/03/18/winxp-and-osx-dual-boot-in-macbook-pro/”>here</a>‘s another link.

Re: windows XP on a mac

Simular things have been around for Linux/win boot options as well, personally I wouldn’t do such a thing,
basically for Security, and secondly because all the setup procedure requires some advanced skills on win OS, filestystem etc,
Slipsstreaming the installation disks is not that easy,(Or at least I couldn’t figure that out when I would have needed it for win2k.)

I’d rather prefer to have 1 or two windows boxes seperately , which are not allowed direct access to the rooter, instead of booting back and forth something, but still I haven’t decided about the perfect network solution.

regards, marios

Hi marios,
I tend to agree with you. What I also thing is the cost of such an installation. I am a mac user myself and I know that to buy windows would cost me about £150 here. With another 250 I can get a basic pc and have them separately. Having said that, the news are big in the mac community.

Re: windows XP on a mac

Big news for some Mac users, yes. I have tested it on an Intel Mac mini (Core Duo) and it does work.

I personally don’t really want Windows running on my MacBook Pro, but I’m going to have to implement it to keep up with the progress of this hack. It may come in handy for previewing web site designs that I’ve developed or managing some of my Cisco hardware, but I’d much rather use virtualization than dual-booting. Atleast with dual-booting, I will only use the Windows side when I really need it and I haven’t used Windows since 1999, so I won’t have any trouble staying away from it.

NuteOwl, cover your eyes!

Now there’s no need for a hack: Apple has released <a href=“http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/”>Boot Camp</a> (public beta) and plans to include it in Leopard.

Talk about a 30 year anniversary product that surprised the hell out of me….

Re: windows XP on a mac

That would work only on tiger and Intel based macs ( reading the instructions), The softwareupdate came out just recently,
still not sure if I should do such a thing, what about safety in a network environement ?

@colak, to allways be informed about what’s going on in the mac world, I never have time to reed all this stuff, but once I start reading, I can’t stop it.

regards

MArios thanks, for the link. Looks great. I’m a bit like you. Have to steal time to get informed.
