Messed up my upgrade
The upgrade instructions said to replace the .htaccess file as well but I don’t see one in the v4.0.3 distribution to replace it with.
There is one. Although on mac and *nix, files starting with a dot are not shown by default in directory listings.
2) tag_error
<txp:glx_if_category_list>
-> Textpattern Warning: unknown_tag
The message means just that. You have used a tag somehwere in your templates or forms, that does not exist, namely <txp:glx_if_category_list>
. Given that it is a plugin-tag, it may be that you deleted the plugin, or that the plugin is turned off. Or maybe you just mispelled the tag.
1) What do I need to do in order to completely recover from my deleted config.php file problem?
I think you did recover correctly. There is only one thing that you may want to check, given that you re-created the config.php: Look into high level diagnostics and see if it says something like “18/19 tables: OK” in there (just below some mysql/charset settings).

What is it you’re quoting?

It appears as though someone replied to my original post by editing it and quoting from my original post. Odd.

Re: Messed up my upgrade
I was able to find the .htaccess file which was hidden due to the leading “.” on the file name. That is in place now.
Look into high level diagnostics and see if it says something like “18/19 tables: OK? in there (just below some mysql/charset settings).
The closest thing I have to something like that in my diagnostics (high detail) is:
18 Tables: txp_discuss_nonce: 1 client is using or hasn’t closed the table properly, txp_log: 21 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly
I checked my plug-ins page and I saw the glx_if plug-in was still listed there and is shown as active but I wondered if the plug-ins were messed up due to my mistake. So I re-downloaded TXP Rin template that I had previously installed (which uses that plug-in) and went through the entire install process again, including deleting and reinstalling and activating the plug-ins. That didn’t get rid of the error. So then I checked and found updates for a couple of the plug-ins so I installed those. Still getting the error message.

Re: Messed up my upgrade
Hmm, odd. It was me who was replying to your post. I could have sworn I saw my post correctly below yours as a response after I posted it. Now my post’s content is in your post and my post has disappeared – very odd.
You’re tables seem to be ok in terms of charactersets.
Still getting the error message.
If you see the exact same error-mesage as above, the plugin does not seem to be active. Otherwise please post a tag-trace of the page where the error is appearing.

Re: Messed up my upgrade
I contacted the author of the template that I’m using (TXP Rin http://thebombsite.com/textpattern-layouts/317/txp-rin) who explained that the tag that is causing my error message is no longer needed since there is an equivalent tag in TextPattern now. So I replaced txp:glx_if_category_list tag with txp:if_category and /txp:glx_if_category_list with /txp:if_category in the default page template and the problem went away. So that appears to be all set.
Now my question is, what should I do about this:
18 Tables: txp_discuss_nonce: 1 client is using or hasn’t closed the table properly, txp_log: 21 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly
The TXP Rin author suggested that there should be a way to “check and fix” my database via my host’s cPanel interface. I opened phpMyAdmin and saw nothing there that looked like it would fix the database. Then I opened VirtualAdmin and noticed that I didn’t see the database for TextPattern listed when I clicked on the “MySQL Database Server” link. I did see the default database that is set up for a new account but the TextPattern database in that account wasn’t listed. I can see both via phpMyAdmin, though.
Given that the database is initially set-up during the TextPattern install process is it possible that the primary user account for my TextDrive account doesn’t have the appropriate permissions to access that database via the MySQL Virtual Admin link?
When I clicked on the default database via the MySQL link in Virtual Admin I saw nothing there about fixing a database. Is there such a tool somewhere on TextDrive?

Re: Messed up my upgrade
Now my question is, what should I do about this:
Unless you have actually any problems, don’t do anything about it. Diagnostics is merely trying to do a check table. If the db is busy or for whateever else reason, these checks can fail sometimes. But unless you have a specific problem, there’s no need to worry about it.
Otherwise the mysql-manual can help you:

I went back and checked the diagnostics again and it now reads “18 Tables: OK”. So, I think everything is all set. Thanks for your help.
