Well yes, I know that, I just wondered why my “special priviledges” had been removed. Not that I’m complaining. Well I am I suppose but I’m not going to argue the point. I just wondered about the reasoning behind it. C’est la vie. ;)

So now I’m back to “chi” and lost about 900 posts in the process. Not that I’m complaining as I am now in second place having managed to “jump” over zem who seems to have lost more than me. As I say, I’m not complaining, but what happened exactly?

Yeah weird; I used to have over 1600 posts, now I only have 568 posts. Cleaning house?

Oh dear, I had not noticed that. I lost several hundreds of post too – don’t know how many, but I did make it to upsilon… Nice to be a Forum Moderator, now no one will notice ;)
We also seem to have lost the posts count in the ‘post profile’ (don’t know how that is called officially).

I know the forum was off-line for a while yesterday due to maintainance so I’m assuming something was done then.

The larger a database becomes, the more difficult it is to manage. Ours was big: think timing out and shooting up processor usage when you just want to backup. This isn’t a bad thing per se, depending upon the content of what makes up the large size. In other words, if it is useful or interesting conversation that’s still relevant, then it is worth it to take greater measures to manage the large size.
All of the very old Troubleshooting posts from the Dead Letter Office were deleted (still available in backup, of course). Unused dead-weight, now gone, freeing up 50% of the total database size.
User ranks are still around and the same as they were before. Your post count would be affected if you spend or spent much time in the Troubleshooting forum; you’ll notice my own post count was effectively cut in half (I was up to something like 33xx).
I think we all agree t’aint about quantity, but quality. With the 100,000 post mini-contest we saw this first-hand. It isn’t about sheer number of posts, or individual posts, but about the person and their contribution as a whole. i.e: we like having people like Stuart or Els around, not because of how many posts they’ve written, but about how helpful they are, and how they consistantly make this community better. That deserves a t-shirt, or at the very least a kudos.
The worry is: are my posts just being deleted willy-nilly? Feel secure: no, they’re not.
Forum stats aren’t displayed in the index or thread view anymore, simply because it is unnecessary info being queried, which nobody really cares about. For the curious, user post counts are still in user profiles and in the user list.
I’m also going through and deleting user accounts which were created in 2004, where the user registered, but never logged in again (huh?); there are lots of these too, more than you might think. You don’t have to have ever posted, but I think it’s reasonable to say why have these old and unused accounts sitting around? There are those that have very old accounts, who’ve never posted, but they at least login every year; those are safe.

50% in the Dead Letter Office? Blimey! Well rid of then. And as for those people who register and are never seen again, I get those at TextGarden. I go through it every few months and remove them. I figure if they ever actually want to contribute it’s a 2 minute job to register again. I’m sure people register out of boredom. They have nothing better to do. “Go make a cuppa cha instead” I say. :)
T-shirt? I had a Christmas present and very grateful for it too. More than enough for me. :)
